Portugal's PSA Sines works with Kalmar on remote-control
RTGs
PSA SINES, the largest container terminal in
Portugal, has been working together with Kalmar, part of Cargotec, on a trial of
semi-automation technology for 11 rubber-tyre gantry (RTG) cranes that were
delivered earlier this year by the crane manufacturer.
The terminal has
piloted with one remote control (RC) desk and has placed an order for seven more
desks to operate the Kalmar E-One2 RTGs amid an on-going capacity expansion
planned to cater to the increasing operational requirements of its customers.
"Once the semi-automation is deployed, we expect it to provide
measurable improvements in productivity and efficiencies," said Kalmar vice
president Tommi Pettersson.
