Port of Southampton docks 19,224-TEU MSC Maya, world's biggest box ship
THE world's largest containership, the 19,224-TEU MSC Maya, one of Mediterranean Shipping Company's Oscar-class ships, has successfully called at DP World's box terminal in the UK port of Southampton.
Measuring 395 metres in length and 59 metres in width, the ship is deployed on the Maersk/MSC 2M alliance's Swan/AE2 service route, sailing between Asia and North Europe.
The MSC Maya follows the deliveries of sister ships MSC Oscar, MSC Oliver and MSC Zoe built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in Geoje, South Korea. The company said a total of nineteen 19,000+ TEU ships have been ordered under its current newbuild programme.
