THE Port of Gdynia saw a 10.7 per cent increase in cargo supply in December 2020 compared to December 2019, reports Blue Economy.
The Port cites their tireless work in 2020 caused the increase, while global turnover was 2.9 per cent higher and the supply of containers reached the dynamics of 0.9 per cent.
The Covid crisis has affected numerous sectors of the economy, but it didn't stop the activity of cargo suppliers, forwarders, and maritime agents.
Over 24,580 tonnes of cargo were transshipped in the port while reloading containers exceeded 903,000 TEU. Baltic Container Terminal Gdynia broke the level of 500,000 TEU.
Lo-lo cranes handled 502,150 TEU and the Hutchison Ports Gdynia handled 401,546 TEU.
'This is a joint success of all our business partners, satisfied customers, and dedicated employees who made it possible despite Covid-19 pandemics, lockdowns, economic slowdown, and market uncertainty,' said the port.
The Port of Gdynia Authority has also received a comprehensive project of geological surveys covering the new breakwaters of the Port of Gdynia and the pier of the Outer Port. The Outer Port will increase the port area, resulting in its reloading capacity increasing 2.5 million TEU.
