THE Port of Dunkirk, or Dunkerque-Port, container volume slipped two per cent to 151,000 TEU in the first half year on year, but laden boxes rose 10 per cent to 98,000 TEU.
The replacement of the Lion service by the Ocean 3 import service has significantly affected the transshipment to Asia of empty containers at the Flanders Terminal, said the port authority
General cargo increased 37 per cent 669,000 tonnes and soft dry bulk was down six per cent to 1.25 million tonnes while solid bulk volume was flat at 11.5 million tonnes.
Petroleum products fell 27 per cent to 1.80 million tonnes, following the decline in activity at the SRD and TOTAL facilities. Other liquid bulks were down 43 per cent at 221,000 tonnes.
General cargoes were up 12 per cent overall with a tonnage of 9.78 million tonnes. Cross-Channel traffic saw an excellent start to the year with 7.65 MT (+13%).
The number of trucks and trailers was up 18 per cent with 330,000 freight units. Passengers increased 29 per cent to 1.33 million and tourist cars were up 10 per cent to 290,000 vehicles.
