THE Port of Beirut's revenue increased 7.23 per cent to US$53.65 million in the months up to April with overall container throughput up 3.38 per cent to 426,950 TEU in the first five months of the year.
Transshipment remained almost flat with a slight increase of 0.81 per cent to 177,314 TEU. But total box volume minus transshipments was up 5.29 per cent during this period to 249,636 TEU, reported the Lebanon Daily Star.
Demand for automobiles surged by 18.69 per cent to 32,097 units from last year's 27,043 units which saw it record its lowest car import in four years. Merchandise activity of both imports and exports climbed to 2.85 million tons, an 8.37 per cent increase.
There was a drop in docked vessels year-on-year from 903 to 828 vessels.
