HONG KONG's Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) plans to "stretch the scope" of ship emissions data verification each year, said a company statement announcing its fourth year of compliance to ISO standards.
"We hope to steadily apply more of OOCL's operations to the rigour of emissions data integrity and information management that is demanded of both the CCWG [Clean Cargo Working Group] and ISO 14064 standards," said OOCL trades director Stephen Ng.
"Environmental performance is core to OOCL's operations, and Lloyd's Register's independent third-party assurance remains instrumental in helping us achieve this business requirement," he said.
Accredited by Lloyd's Register (LR), we are pleased to announce that OOCL has once again achieved dual reporting standards through the use of Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG) and ISO 14064-1:2006 verification tools, said the company statement.
CCWG, an NGO, is a unit of Business for Social Responsibility, which aims to "work with business to create a just and sustainable world, in which everyone can lead a prosperous and dignified life".
It lists as "partners" most major shipping lines and a number of top retailers with proportionally less representation from the United States.
"OOCL is proud of the dual verification achievement from our GHG [green house gas] reporting against the ISO 14064-1:2006 standard, which specifies principles and requirements at the organisation level for quantification and reporting of GHG emissions and removals," it said.
Said Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance marketing manager Simon Batters: "We are pleased to once again support OOCL's green objectives and their efforts in environmental stewardship through our verification work."
"This is the fourth consecutive year that OOCL completed the verification by using the CCWG standard and the second year adopting the duel standards," the company said.
