OUT-OF-DATE information in a recent news story led to confusion about Transpacific Stablisation Agreement's plan to permanently merge its eastbound and westbound sections.
Information taken from a 2012 article, while accurate at the time, had been overtaken by events by the time it was republished on Thursday on November 25 in the Shipping Gazette when was no longer relevant and, thus misleading.
What happened was that TSA applied for, and received, US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) approval in 2013 to expand its scope to include both transpacific directions for a two-year trial period.
At that point West Bound Stablisation Agreement ceased operations and a westbound section was created within TSA.
The two-year trial period ends in early 2015. TSA has applied to the FMC to extend to retain westbound in its scope indefinitely going forward. The Shipping Gazette regrets the confusion the story created.
