THE Port of Oakland has reported it has reduced vessel backups and yard congestion, improved truck transaction times and better terminal productivity after working two weeks "all out".
"This isn't victory - there's still a great deal of work to do - but we're seeing good collaboration between labour, terminal operators and harbour truckers, and our customers will soon benefit from faster, smoother cargo flow," said Oakland maritime director John Driscoll.
Since the "tentative agreement", marine terminals having been working nights and weekends and requests for longshore labour are being filled.
Sustained container lifts per crane, per hour, are 25 to 30, reported Newark's Journal of Commerce, with officials expecting a return to the historic highs of 30 to 35 moves when the port returns to normal.
