JAPANESE shipping giant nyk has increased work-from-home measures in response to the Japanese government's decision to extend the Covid state-of-emergency and expand the mandate to include eight more prefectures from August 27 to September 12.
Affected employees are head office workers, those in the Yokohama branch office, Nagoya branch office, Kansai branch office and Kyushu branch office
NYK has ordered all staff to work from home during this period with the exception of special cases.
Domestic and overseas business trips are to be avoided. Face-to-face meetings with customer will be prohibited and replaced by online meetings as much as possible utilising applications such as Microsoft Teams.
'We ask customers to refrain from visiting our offices with the exception of special cases,' said the NYK statement.
'The NYK Group considers prevention of the spread of Covid-19 and the health and safety of the company's employees to be of utmost importance and will continue to operate vessels safely to ensure the stable transportation of energy, resources, and materials that support people's lives,' it said.
