NYK 'sustainability leader' included in RobecoSAM's Bronze Class
JAPAN's NYK Line announced that it has been included in the Bronze Class of the 2013 Sustainability Yearbook compiled by RobecoSAM in Switzerland, making it the only Japanese company in the industrial transportation sector to be recognised as a "sustainability leader".
The yearbook is regarded as the world's most comprehensive annual publication on corporate sustainability performance. RobecoSAM is a global SRI-evaluation company that selects companies for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), one of the world's two largest indexes. Every year, RobecoSAM rates companies that conduct superior corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities and places the top companies in one of three classes: gold, silver, or bronze.
From 3,000 leading companies around the world operating in 58 industries, RobecoSAM selected the top 465 companies, which are those that have demonstrated outstanding corporate sustainability in terms of management, society and environment. Of the 465 companies, 226 of them were placed into the three classes: 67 in the Gold class, 52 in the Silver class and 107 in the Bronze class. In the industrial transportation sector, 10 companies were included, with one awarded Gold, three Silver, and six Bronze.
"As a good corporate citizen, NYK will continue to take an active role in social issues, including conservation of the environment, to contribute to the achievement of a better global society," a statement from the shipping line said.
