New York Shipping Association cuts per box rate from US$94 to $89
THE New York Shipping Association (NYSA) has announced that the cost to use the Port of New York and New Jersey has been reduced, reports the American Journal of Transportation.
"Effective May 1, the charge for a container of cargo with a destination within 260 miles of our port has been reduced to US$89 from $94 in all trades except in the Bermuda Trade which shall stay at a rate of $25.00," said NYSA president John Nardi.
"The new rates continue the trend of reduced operational costs in the Port of New York and New Jersey and further demonstrates the ongoing commitment of NYSA members to contain the cost of doing business in our port," Mr Nardi said.
"The ability to reduce our assessment rate is a direct link to the continued growth in cargo volume over the past several years. Cargo containers with a destination within 260 miles of our port comprise 60 per cent of the total, making this a significant rate reduction," he said.
