AUSTRALIA has announced the introduction of a single coastal trading permit for all ships in a crackdown on easy-going practices of foreign-flagged vessels.
This replaces the current tiered system and amendments to legislation to allow the carriage of petroleum products.
Other measures include removing exemptions for large ships from the coastal trading permit requirements.
There is also a new enforcement of international working standards and amendments to the Australian international shipping register changing competition rules among foreign-flagged ships.
A minimum Australian senior crewing requirement is also to apply to foreign ships remaining on the coast for more than 183 days in a permit period.
In addition, monthly trade reporting requirements are to be reduced to annual reporting, according to GAC Hot Port News.
