A new STS crane at Tuas Port in Singapore tipped over last Sunday (June 15) while being delivered to a non-operational berth, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and (PSA) said in a joint statement.
No one was hurt, according to the statement, but the extent of damage to the crane has not been disclosed, according to UK's WorldCargo News.
'No damage has been assessed to adjacent port equipment and facilities. All of PSA Singapore (PSA)'s current operational berths remain fully accessible, and all port operations and port development works remain unaffected,' MPA added.
The cause of the incident is under investigation. PSA and the MPA are working with relevant authorities to determine the circumstances.
Tuas Port, which opened its first three berths in September 2022, is Singapore's largest fully automated container terminal.
PSA plans to consolidate all its container handling operations from other terminals to Tuas, which is being developed in phases to increase capacity and accommodate larger vessels.
When fully completed in the 2040s, Tuas Port is expected to become the world's largest automated container terminal, with an annual handling capacity of 65 million TEU.
