HIGHER volumes from Aeroflot and AirBridgeCargo (ABC) helped Moscow's primary Sheremetyevo airport handle 5
HIGHER volumes from Aeroflot and AirBridgeCargo (ABC) helped Moscow's primary Sheremetyevo airport handle 5.5 per cent more cargo year on year to reach 300,000 tonnes in 2018.
The airport said that international cargo volumes rose by more than seven per cent to more than 220,000 tonnes.
'Sustained growth of import cargo on international flights handled at Sheremetyevo (+25 per cent against 2017) and by imports (+7.5 per cent against 2017) were recorded in 2018, while the volume of transfer cargo remained the same,' said the airport.
'One of the factors contributing to the increase in international exports at Sheremetyevo was the growth in the export volumes of the two largest cargo air carriers of Russia serviced at the airport. The total growth of exports on international flights of Aeroflot and ABC was 33.9per cent, compared with 2017,' it said.
The most popular international routes, accounting for more than 50 per cent of the total freight traffic, were China, Germany, the US, the Netherlands and the Republic of Korea.
The largest increase in outbound and transit freight traffic in 2018 was marked on the routes to Liege (LGG), Leipzig (LEJ), Chengdu (CTU) and Taiwan (TPE).
The airport said that 'the most impressive growth of inbound and transit freight traffic 'was seen on the routes from Tokyo (NRT), Chongqing (CKG), Zhengzhou (CGO) and Seoul (ICN).
