Modern Terminals ready for UN's VGM container weigh-in rule July 1
MODERN Terminals Limited (MTL) says it is all set for the introduction of the new gross container weight mass declaration rules under the International Maritime Organisation's SOLAS Verified Gross Mass (VGM) requirements that go into effect on July 1.
All of the group's container terminals, including those in Hong Kong, Dachan Bay and Taicang are now fully equipped to provide container weighing services to customers who need assistance, a statement said.
"The Modern Terminals team has been working closely with shippers, carriers and truckers to ensure a smooth process is in place upon SOLAS VGM go live in July," it said.
Said MTL chief operating officer Peter Levesque: "We are pleased to be able to offer VGM services to our customers across our business units in Hong Kong and China, and we continue to work closely with local government authorities to ensure a smooth and effective transition for customers in meeting SOLAS requirements."
MTL operates and holds most shares in Dachan Bay Terminals in the Pearl River Delta (PRD), and cooperates with Ningbo Port Co Ltd due to its investment in Taicang International Gateway in the Yangtze River Delta. In the PRD, MTL also holds equity stakes in both Shekou Container Terminals and Chiwan Container Terminal.
