Zinzan Brooke now spends his time as CEO of Number 8 Group, a recruitment and skills specialist company. He took part in the Skills Breakfast with representatives from Cammell Laird and Liverpool John Moores University. The Skills Breakfast provided a forum for networking and putting maritime skillsets at the forefront of the discussion panel.
Zinzan Brooke said: “It is very easy to forget the importance of skills. The discussion panel acted as a powerful tool to get the maritime sector businesses involved and engaged in the topic while recognising that training is the key to improvement.”
Chris Shirling-Rooke, Acting CEO for Mersey Maritime, added: “The Skills Breakfast was a very successful event. It threw up some interesting discussion topics as businesses considered how skills challenges are impacting on the maritime sector.”
Around the table at Mersey Maritime were Liverpool John Moores University, Beech Group, Altrad NSG, Vissap, MCA Installations, Hugh Baird College, Grant Thornton, Jaguar Land Rover and Maritime and Engineering College North West (MECNW).
The Skills Breakfast addressed shortages and training requirements necessary to meet present and future employer demand being created through Liverpool City Region SuperPort. The discussion centred on providing a skilled workforce for Liverpool SuperPort which is due to create over 20,000 new jobs in the next ten years.
