A Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated a female suffering from a head injury aboard the 'Grand Princess' near Yaquina Bay, in the morning of Sep 2, 2018. Coast Guard Sector Columbia River Command Center watchstanders initially received the request for assistance fromthe cruise ship at 5 a.m. The cruise ship began transiting toward Yaquina Bay, so Coast Guard Sector North Bend Command Center watchstanders took over control as the Search and Rescue Mission Coordinators. The North Bend personnel dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew o fthe Coast Guard Air Facility Newport to meet the cruise ship, which was approximately 35 nautical miles off of Yaquina Bay when the medevac occurred. The aircrew hoisted the individual and transported her to awaiting Emergency Medical Service personnel in Newport. At 7:15 a.m., the helicopter crew transported the injured woman to the EMS personnel on shore.
