The "Maersk Nijmegen" equested medical assistance for its master on Feb 18, 2017, 300 miles northeast of Terceira island, Azores. The ship, which was en route from Antwerp to Cartagena, changed course and headed for Ponta Delgada. The captain was airlifted by helicopter and transported to a hospital in Ponta Delgada. Later that day he was released from hospital and returned onto his ship in the evening, so it could resume the voyage.
