Maersk Line has decided to temporarily withdraw its AE9 service from the Far East to Europe due to overcapacity. Most part of the Christmas goods have been shipped and there is and will be an over capacity in the market in the coming month. The AE9 is running from Laem Chabang, via Tanjung Pelepas and Colombo to Zeebrügge, Felixstowe, Bremerhaven and Rotterdam.
“At this point, we do not expect to lay up vessels or further capacity adjustments in the trade. We plan to reinstate the AE9 service as demand levels dictate, and we will remain flexible to changes in the market”, says Lee Sissons, Director of Maersk Line’s Asia-Europe trade.
AE9 accounts for around ten per cent of Maersk Line’s capacity on the Asia–Europe trade.
