Maersk suspends Benghazi calls as fighting in Libya rages
AS fighting continues in Benghazi, Maersk has joined Hapag-Lloyd and CMA CGM in stopping calls to the port, saying the Libya Link service that its wholly-owned Seago Line is suspended.
Cargo en route to Benghazi or discharged in Malta will divert to other Libyan ports, such as Misuratah and Al-Khoms.
The Danish shipping line said the Libya Line service had been unable to call at the port of Benghazi for the past two weeks as fighting in the area has halted operations, reported Lloyd's List.
The weekly service relays between the ports of Benghazi and the Maltese port of Marsaxlokk.
Two weeks ago, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd issued customer circulars warning that they were suspending services to Benghazi.
