MAERSK Line has switched the UK call of its Samba service from nearby Tilbury to DP World London Gateway Port.
The first call on the Samba service will be made by the Hong Kong-flagged 8,600-TEU Maersk Lanco on Monday March 21.
Separately, Maersk recently diverted the 8,850-TEU Maersk Lavras from Hutchison's Felixstowe port to London Gateway because of berth and landside congestion at Felixstowe.
The carrier issued an advisory notice to customers on its AE1 service last week. The Maersk Lavras is scheduled to discharge 2,251 containers at London Gateway within a 24-hour window, reported London's Loadstar.
Said London Gateway CEO Simon Moore: "It is very pleasing that Maersk Line's alterations to its Samba service will now see it call at DP World London Gateway Port.
"Maersk Line's South Africa Europe Container Service has been calling here since 2013 and there are very clear advantages available to Maersk's customers by calling at the UK's newest, most advanced deep-sea port," he said.
Said Maersk UK chief Brian Godsafe: "We work with the ports that are able to support us in offering reliable services to our customers. We enjoy a good relationship with the team at DP World London Gateway."
