LONG-TIME Democrat, Port of Long Beach executive director Mario Cordero, has been appointed to the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, effective January 1.
Mr Cordero was forced out as chairman of the five-member Federal Maritime Commission in 2017 after Republican President Donald Trump replaced him with a GOP man.
He will continue to serve as Long Beach port manager while on the Federal Reserve board, reports the American Journal of Transportation.
'It is an honour to be appointed to the board of directors for the Los Angeles branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. I look forward to serving in this capacity, especially as we all work to help the economy recover,' said Mr Cordero.
Before serving on the Federal Maritime Commission from 2011 to 2017, he worked as an attorney for the Long Beach Harbour Commissioner from 2003 to 2011. He holds a law degree from the University of Santa Clara and a BSc in political science from California State University, Long Beach.
