La Spezia Container Terminal No 1 choice as Asia-south Europe link
LA SPEZIA port now offers shortest, most reliable delivery times to end users in Italy and beyond, says port operator Contship Italia Group.
"La Spezia System has continued to evolve since its inception in 2011, when it welcomed the first 14,000-TEU ship to call at any Italian gateway," said the port authority.
This month, the MSC La Spezia returns to the terminal as well as a second 13,500-TEU ship, the Malik al Ashtar, to be served by 10 cranes simultaneously.
The simultaneous operation of two ULCCs, now the standard in the Asia-Med trades, highlights to supply chains how La Spezia continues to provide efficiencies.
"These efficiencies are now supported by continuous improvement in process changes and other initiatives, to ensure imports for delivery to end users in the shortest possible time," said the La Spezia statement.
Efficient export solutions from Europe to Asia are shown with the Malik Al Ashtar as it starts its Med port rotation with a transit time from Shanghai of 26 days just as the MSC La Spezia ends of its regional rotation on the backhaul leg to Asia.
Since early 2014, pre-clearance of containers prior to arrival at La Spezia Container Terminal - LSCT (Contship Italia Group) has been possible.
This generated substantial ongoing reductions to import dwell times and facilitating free onward movement of cargo to end users from this efficient gateway for Italian cargo, said the LSCT statement.
"Our target remains to continuously improve and make both existing and new customers aware of the advantages of using La Spezia," said LSCT managing director Michele Giromin.
"La Spezia System focuses on value and efficiency in the supply chain, progressively reducing import dwell times, and thereby total costs, with the assistance of local partners," he said.
LSCT remains committed to constant improvements and refinements to this end, concentrating on end-to-end competitiveness, he declared.
"The wider advantages to shippers include faster processing, the speeding of cargo to end customers beyond the port gate, plus effective routing for exports to Asia," he said.
"Our system involves the local community, customs, and forwarders, as well an extensive rail network involving a major presence of Contship's internal partners Oceanogate and Hannibal, providing rail traction, domestic and international intermodal services, road haulage, customs and warehousing.
"Contship's mission is to furnish comprehensive efficiencies for the entire logistics supply chain and deliver the fully holistic means through which cargo can be conveyed. This is the true added value the group works to provide," said Mr Giromin.
