LA loses loop, slips 7.2pc to 646,650 TEU - LB up 1.8pc to 565,476 TEU
THE Port of Long Beach posted a 1.8 per cent year-on-year increase in container volume in June to 565,476 TEU, while the Los Angeles reported a loss of 7.2 per cent to 646,650 TEU, attributed to the loss of a shipping service.
Monthly Long Beach exports increased 0.1 per cent year on year to 133,800 TEU, while June imports rose 3.5 per cent to 290,448 TEU. Empties came in at 41,228 TEU, only 44 TEU above last year's June reading.
For the first six months of 2013, Long Beach volume increased 14.2 per cent with a 16.2 per cent rise in imports, a 10.1 per cent growth in exports and 14.8 per cent more empties, attributed to bigger ships calling more frequently.
Los Angeles June imports fell 7.2 per cent year on year to 328,324 TEU while exports fell 15 per cent to 148,203 TEU. Combined, container cargo fell 9.8 per cent in June to 476,528 TEU year on year. Empties increased one per cent.
