KOREAN Air has begun operating a B777 freighter to Delhi three times a week following the introduction of a similar frequency passenger service to Mumbai five times a week, reports London's freightweek.
B777F LHRThe airline said the decision was prompted by the South Korean government's strategy to strengthen ties to India coupled with the rapid market growth of the subcontinent.
The new freighter flight will depart at 11.10pm from Incheon, make a stop at Hanoi and arrive at Delhi at 6.15am the next day. The return flight from Delhi to Incheon includes stops in Vienna and Milan, according to the company.
'Demand for air cargo from East Asia to India has shown a sharp boost recently; an average of 6.5 per cent annual increase in the last three years,' said Korean Air. 'We are anticipating new demand and improved profitability through optimised cargo routes.'
The airline says it will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year with the use of B777 and B747-8 freighters together with a new air cargo system 'iCargo'.
