Kobe port's volumes rise 5pc to 893,425 TEU from January-April
THE Japanese port of Kobe handled 893,425 TEU from January to April, up 4.9 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Within this total, 697,924 TEU came from foreign trade, up 3.7 per cent, and the remainder came from domestic trade, up 9.3 per cent year on year.
Cargo traffic at the port rose by 7.7 per cent in April - the latest months figures were available - from a year earlier to 8.313 million tonnes, as domestic trade posted double-digit growth, according to data released by the Kobe municipal government.
Of the 8.313 million tonnes, 4.45 million tonnes came from foreign trade, up 4.5 per cent, and 3.86 million tonnes came from domestic trade, an increase of 11.7 per cent.
