A Chinese fishing vessel, Liao Dong Yu 578, was hijacked off Puntland, Somalia, on New Year's Day, raising maritime security concerns.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has received a report that a Singapore-registered Liquefied Petroleum Gas vessel, YORK, was boarded by suspected pirates at approximately 90 nautical miles from Mombasa, Kenya.
