CARGOTEC unit Kalmar has received an order from TraPac Inc to deliver two new fifth generation Kalmar automatic stacking cranes (ASCs) to its Los Angeles terminal.
The cranes will join a fleet of 27 Kalmar ASCs and 28 Kalmar automated straddle carriers managed by the Kalmar TLS equipment control system, said the Finnish company statement.
The new ASCs will be delivered in 2016 and they are expected to be commissioned by the end of 2016.
"Our partnership with TraPac has led to the development of the fifth generation ASC, which combines all the experience gained during the first phase of the project," said Kalmar vice president Troy.
Meanwhile the autostacker was introduced at the TOC Europe exhibition in Rotterdam.
At the heart of the new ASC system, the crane has an optimised lightweight structure with a 10 per cent weight reduction compared to previous generation.
This decreases energy consumption and offers savings in operational costs as well as improving maintenance access, ergonomics and usability.
