'K' Line orders five 14,000-TEU for CKYH Alliance's Asia-Europe trade
JAPANESE shipping giant "K" Line has order five 14,000-TEU containerships built by Japan's Imabari Shipbuilding Co to be delivered in spring and summer 2015.
"K" Line is to deploy the five suezmax ultra large containerships on its Asia-Europe trade as part of CKYH Alliance service. This will bring the total of vessels in the class to be operated by CKYH to 14 with 21 on order, which include the five from "K" Line.
It is as yet undecided whether to own or charter them from another company as owning all five is "unrealistic", said "K" Line spokesman Jitsuo Narita. "There are several options but our basic idea is to create an off-balance-sheet scheme for these vessels."
