January Dutch forum to discuss cyber threat to the maritime industry
A FORUM is to be held next month in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to look into the issue of maritime cyber security and to examine the preparedness of shipping companies to tackle this problem.
Cyber threat is growing across all sectors, and in this information era of the connected ship, and with the shipping sector's increasing reliance on technology and remote monitoring, maritime cyber security is no longer just optional, but is business-critical.
Whilst the risk is real, it can be mitigated, but how quickly and robustly a company can respond to this challenge will depend on how ready and determined they are, and whether they are investing in cyber preparedness.
The Cyber Resilience Forum organised by Digital Ship is to be held on January 31 and will cover 5 key sessions including an overview of cyber challenges and Impact on the maritime sector.
The forum will also discuss new developments in maritime cyber regulations and guidelines and the pan-industry platforms and collaboration to combat cyber challenges, a statement said.
The confirmed speakers include Phil Tinsley, maritime security manager, BIMCO; Wolfgang Roehrig, project officer cyber defence, European Defence Agency; Andrew Webster, partner, JLT Specialty; Max Bobys, vice president, Global Strategies, HudsonAnalytix/HA-Cyber;Toby Chinn, director, Cyber Consulting, Control Risks; Nick Lambert, Maritime Domain Expert, Satellite Applications Catapult; and Steve Williams, partner, Moore Stephens.
