Israel plans to purchase two Boeing KC-46 aerial refuelling tankers in a US$500 million deal funded by US military aid, the defence ministry said, reported Reuters.
The contract will be signed with the US government once approved by Israel's ministerial committee for defence procurement. The US oversees all foreign military sales and transfers.
israel already operates four KC-46s. Defence Ministry Director General Amir Baram said the new aircraft would boost long-range strategic capabilities, allowing operations farther afield with greater force.
The tankers were used during Israel's 12-day air war against Iran in June. The deal includes fitting the planes with unspecified Israeli systems.
Washington provides Israel with billions annually to buy US-made weapons. Some US lawmakers have recently questioned continued military aid, citing the Gaza war and domestic spending priorities.
