This year's conference of the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) will be held in Hamburg from June 1 to 5, drawing delegates from business, politics and science to discuss topic of great concern to shipping.
The conference will focus on the smartPORT concept developed by the host of the conference, the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA). During the five-day conference delegates will hear about what Hamburg, Europe and the world mean by intelligent port management.
Hamburg Port Authority CEO Jens Meier will show how IT-supported infrastructure makes economic and logistical processes more efficient and sustainable.
From Australia analyst Michael Pal for Fremantle Ports will demonstrate "truck marshalling automation and key performance indicator control.
He will be joined by representatives from Stockholm, Valencia and the Far East will present answers to the question of what makes a port a smartPORT.
The conference will deal with question of ship size development and whether there is a limit to a ship size.
International Chamber of Shipping secretary general Peter Hinchliffe and Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) director Christian Growitsch will introduce a discussion on general global economic developments.
