AUSTRALIAN Border Force officers has seized up to AUD300 million (US$196.4 million) worth of methylamphetamine found in a shipment that arrived in Sydney from South East Asia.
The officers intercepted the air cargo consignment at a Sydney freight depot recently after a tip-off from NSW Police, according to 9News, Sydney.
Police Superintendent Martin Fileman told reporters the shipment contained about 400 kilogrammes of a white crystalline substance that tested positive for methylamphetamine.
'If this was making it's way into a country town it would decimate it,' Superintendent Fileman said.
Border force acting commander Garry Low described the concealment as 'lazy' but said it passed through several ports before arriving in Sydney.
Police say investigations are continuing.
