HONG Kong's hutchison Ports (UK) has completed the deployment of a private 5G network across the Port of Felixstowe and Harwich International Port, establishing one of the UK's largest private 5G infrastructures.
The new network delivers fast, reliable, and secure communication for a wide range of port operations, supporting both traditionally driven and fully autonomous vehicles and equipment.
According to Hutchison Ports (UK): 'The use of 5G provides greater bandwidth and reduced latency, allowing the ports to expand their use of technology in remote-control and automated/autonomous pieces of equipment simultaneously and with greater reliability. It also provides opportunities to enhance and deploy new technologies to help meet our customers' requirements.'
The new infrastructure is expected to open up further opportunities for the adoption of emerging technologies to meet evolving customer needs at both ports, reports London's Port Technology International.
