VESSEL operators in hong Kong are reminded of five knot speed restrictions in designated zones between April and October, reports St Petersburg PortNews.
The Marine Department's Notice No 109/2025 cites regulatory authority under Cap 548F and Cap 313A to limit vessel speeds from 8am to midnight in specified areas.
From July 1 to September 15 and on weekends or public holidays, five-knot limits apply in parts of Tolo Harbour, Port Shelter, and Rocky Harbour.
From April 1 to October 31 and on weekends or public holidays, speed limits cover zones around Hong Kong Island South, Lamma Island, Cheung Chau and Discovery Bay.
A year-round five-knot limit remains in effect for Hebe Haven (Pak Sha Wan) under Port Shelter.
Operators of large or high-powered vessels are urged to minimize wake wash, especially near swimming beaches, fish culture zones, and narrow channels like Fat Tong Mun.
