Hong Kong Customs seizes US$541,708 in motorbikes in 3 containers
HONG KONG Customs officers seized 65 motorcycles valued at HK$4.2 million (US$541,708) from three containers, and arrested two men, aged 46 and 29, in the biggest motorcycle smuggling case in a decade.
Officers found 20 unmanifested motorcycles and 111 tyres in a suspicious container declared as containing scrap metal, which arrived from Australia, reported Hong Kong Government Information Service.
Follow-up investigations led to the seizure of another 45 motorcycles and 82 tyres from two other containers arriving from Australia.
Under the Import & Export Ordinance, anyone found guilty of importing unmanifested cargo can be fined up to HK$2 million and jailed up to seven years.
