Hong Kong bypass - Guangxi commences new shipping service to Thailand
A vessel carrying 120 containers of starch from Bangkok recently called at southwest China's Qinzhou Bonded Port Area in Guangxi, marking the inauguration of the direct shipping service between Guangxi and Thailand, Xinhua reports.
An unspecified staff from Qinzhou Bonded Port Area said the direct shipping service dispenses with the need to transship via Hong Kong and hence saves the cost for reloading, berthing and storage fees. It is also 11 days faster than transshipping via Hong Kong, taking only seven days.
Qinzhou Bonded Port Area is the only bonded port area at China's southwest coast, and the nearest to ASEAN countries. Since commencement of operation, the bonded port area's shipping services has been increasing. It is now operating scheduled container services to Hong Kong and Vietnam's Haiphong. Another service to Singapore is still in trial operation.
