HONG Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded a steady increase in cargo traffic in April 2025, with total cargo volume rising to 404,000 tonnes, a 2.6 per cent year-on-year increase, according to figures released today by Airport Authority Hong Kong (HK).
The growth was fuelled primarily by a 13.9 per cent rise in transshipments, highlighting HKIA's critical role as a key hub in global supply chains, reports UK's Cargo Airports and Airlines Services.
Air cargo traffic to and from Europe and the Middle East emerged as the strongest contributors to the month's performance, reflecting robust demand for cross-regional trade.
The figures come amid a broader recovery in global cargo markets, with Hong Kong looking to reassert its position as one of the world's leading airfreight gateways following pandemic-era disruptions and regional competition.
The sustained growth in transshipment volumes underscores the airport's strategic focus on network connectivity and efficiency, as it continues to serve as a major conduit between Asia and long-haul markets.
