A CYBER attack has rendered the management information system (MIS) at Mumbai's Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT) inoperable, reports London's Loadstar.
State-owned JNPCT is one of five terminals in India's top container gateway of JNPT (Nhava Sheva). The others are run by DP World, Maersk's APM Terminals and Singapore's PSA.
After the suspected ransomwere attack was detected, it appeared that the other private terminals at JNPT were unaffected and operating normally.
'There are still no firm indications as to when the outage will be fixed,' said a shipping line official at Nhava Sheva.
But a Xinhau report said port officials said that there had been no effect on the cargo operations at the terminal, without confirming or denying the cyber-attack.
JNPCT had one of its scheduled vessels divert to the nearby terminal after it abruptly stopped accepting ships needing berths.
Separately, Expeditors has also faced a cyberattack and is working to resolve the challenges, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Global operations at Expeditors are facing disruption after the US forwarder became the latest supply chain firm to suffer a cyber attack.
The forwarder said that it was working with global cyber security experts to resolve the situation but added that systems may be unavailable as it assesses and stabilises its systems and backup procedures are implemented.
In its latest update, the company said: 'Expeditors' global network continues to work diligently through our crisis management and business continuity response plans.
Expeditors is not the only company involved in air cargo to have suffered a cyber attack in recent months. Ground handler Swissport battled an attack and in December, forwarder Hellmann's operations were also affected by a breach.
