IN the first half of this year, the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan in China's Zhejiang province has posted 444,000 TEU sea-rail transportation volume, an increase of 15 per cent year on year.

The port's rail connections have been expanded to 54 domestic cities.

Cargo throughput at Ningbo-Zhoushan port was 568.89 million tonnes in H1, an increase of two per cent year on year while the container volume dropped 4.7 per cent to 13.25 million TEU.

Container transportation at Ningbo-Zhoushan port sharply declined in the first quarter due to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. The status improved starting from the second quarter with the production resumption.

To maintain normal port operations, Ningbo-Zhoushan port has strengthened the cooperation with container lines and opened new domestic services. The domestic container volume at Ningbo-Zhoushan port increased 8.3 per cent year on year in H1.

In April, the port commenced operation of Chuanshan port rail station, which could effectively improve sea-rail transportation capability of Ningbo-Zhoushan port, reports UK's Seatrade Maritime News.
