Grounded Maersk ship delays southbound Suez convoy eight hours
THE 9,971-TEU Maersk Shams, under long-term charter agreement to Maersk Line, ran aground while in a southbound convoy of 33 ships in the Suez Canal, reports Mumbai's Shipping Times.
The ship held back the rest of the convoy which had to wait as the vessel was refloated at 11pm with the assistance of canal tugs.
The 111,032-dwt Maersk Shams is currently being assessed for damage at the Port Said anchorage. She is a new vessel and was delivered by Hyundai Heavy Industries last December to Oceanbulk Containers.
Oceanbulk's current fleet stands at eight 10,000-TEU containers, and its orderbook comprises of five 11,000 TEU containers to be delivered last next year.
