THE top 15 US airlines increased cargo volume in September 8.2 per cent year on year at 447,000 tons amid surging US demand, reports IHS Media.
International air cargo volume carried by the main US airlines during the third quarter rose 10 per cent year on year.
Data filed with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) by 15 of the leading US cargo airlines, which carry 95 per cent of the total volume of freight and mail, show 1.34 million tons of international cargo was handled in the third quarter.
Asia Pacific airlines freight carried increased 22.3 per cent year over year, while cargo capacity expanded 20 per cent in September, but the growth in demand kept average international freight load factors at 74.2 per cent.
'Solid orders for consumer goods and industrial components buoyed air cargo demand, especially as retailers sought to increase stock levels ahead of the year-end holiday season and major shopping events,' said American Association of Port Authorities (PA) director general Subhas Menon.
'In addition, supply chain congestion at some shipping hubs boosted demand for air shipment,' said Mr Menon.
Average load factors for the Asian carriers from January through October are at 74.5 per cent compared to 65.9 per cent during the same period in 2020.
