Freighter sank, nine rescued
On May 21, 2015, at 7.10 p.m. the "Yue You Lian 68" issued a distress signal, reporting water ingress and sinking. The vessel was one mile SE of Gaolan island, southwest of Macao, en route from Hong Kong to Taishan.
At 8.12 p.m. the crew of nine went into life rafts and were picked up by the rescue tug "Zhugangtuo 8" (MMSI: 413272280). The freighter sank near the main channel of Gaolan port with the mast remaining above the water.
Maritime authorities requested a wreck removal from the owner.
The ship was loaded with 2,600 tonnes of mud for industrial use.
