SINERGY Cargo, the Italian member of the Hong Kong-based FPS network of independent forwarders and consolidators, has opened a multi-modal container and bulk cargo handling and storage centre at Arquata Scrivia on the outskirts of Genoa Port.
The new cargo terminal covers a total area of 105,000 square metres, comprising 20,000 square metres of warehousing divided into 10 units, with five cereal silos totalling 22,000 cubic metres of capacity, and large truck parking and manoeuvring areas, a group statement said.
The site has 2.5 kilometres of rail sidings connected to the national rail system at nearby Arquata Scrivia station, and is a kilometre from the A7 highway to Milan (90 kilometres) and Turin (130 kilometres).
Using the new base, the company is able to offer ocean container loading, unloading and storage; logistics services such as pick/pack and labelling; warehousing and secure storage, including high-value cargo; customs clearance and bonded storage; receiving and handout of loose cargo; consolidation and breakbulk (containers and trailers); handling and storage of dry bulk cargo; and handling/storage of minerals, steel coil, long pipes and other outsize and bulk commodities. The cargo terminal caters for domestic freight, international exports and imports.
The facility's dry bulk cargo silos comply with ASL regulations for storing human and animal foodstuffs, are equipped with remotely monitored temperature probes, and have a power-drying and cooling system to maintain product condition and minimise wastage. The facility is equipped for loading and unloading trains under cover, and is approved to handle shipments to or from points both within and outside the EU.
The new terminal already provides specialist logistics services to six major book publishers by holding their stock and handling returns, processing and fulfilling orders, monitoring and reporting stocks directly into the publishers' IT systems, and recycling redundant stocks.
Another specialist service being offered is document management and archiving, scanning, and data storage or transmission back to the customer.
