On Thursday morning at Laem Chabang, port officials visited the Japanese ship “The Mol Aqua” which caught on fire on Wednesday in which a fire had started in a container of computers before spreading to burn the other 10 containers loaded with chemicals.
The ship was carrying 200 containers, of which 147 containers were partly damaged by the fire. The Investigation team is awaiting authorization from the owner of the ship to be able to investigate the cause of fire.
On the same day, the Laem Chabang Police, the Mayor of Laem Chabang, and the Permanent Secretary of Laem Chabang City visited the Mol Aqua ship. The Security Guard Companies that operate at the port were advised not to allow any outsiders into the area until the investigation is over.
The nineteen crew members had been safely evacuated. Some containers were known to have highly inflammable cargoes which fortunately, when not affected by the fire. The investigation is expected to carry on for a few days before reaching a conclusion.
