The 'Sabuk Nusantara 39' which was docked outside Wani because the state-owned company that owned it was delivering it to a new owner, was still aground days after the tsunami in Palu. It had been dumped off in the village of Wani in waves towering an estimated 15 meters after the magnitude 7.5 quake and tsunami hit central Sulawesi. The captain and 20 crew members remained on board, waiting for an assessment team to arrive and decide if the ship could be recovered. At least 10 other vessels had twisted and collided and the rapidly retreating tide sucked the 'Sabuk Nusantara 39' away from the pier. The tide retreated about seven meters. The pier had collapsed. . The ship had a smooth landing and appeared completely undamaged, but was resting about 50 meters from its original position at the dock.
