FEDEX has opened a new 38,000-square-foot air cargo facility in Manchester, relocating its operations to expand capacity and efficiency in the UK.
The new site is half a mile from Manchester Airport and aims to strengthen parcel and freight services for domestic and international trade.
The facility uses an automated sorting system and x-ray machines to handle rising e-commerce demand and regional cargo volumes in the Northwest, which contributes 22.5 per cent of the UK's total freight GDP, writes Mumbai's The STAT Trade Times.
Steve Johnson, managing director, UK Air Operations at FedEx, said: 'The opening of our enhanced facility in Manchester is a significant milestone for fedex and our valued customers as we continue to advance our freight capabilities in the UK. With the rising demand for cargo aviation and the rapid growth of e-commerce, we recognise the need to reconfigure our network to prioritise both speed and efficiency.'
FedEx connects over 2.5 million shippers with 200 million customers globally and delivers 17 million packages daily.
The company has served the UK since 1984 and plans further network improvements, including new hubs near Kingsbury and Marston Gate by 2029.
