ETHIOPIAN Airlines is seeking the approval of the US Department of Transportation to commence a code share agreement with all-cargo airline Western Global that would open a route between the US and Africa to transport mail.
The African carrier aims to display Western Global's KD designator code on its flights once the US cargo airline's contract with the US Postal Service kicks into action.
If Ethiopian Airline's application is approved, it will be able to carry US mail to a list of destinations in Africa from the origins Newark Liberty, JFK, Los Angeles and O'Hare International, London's Air Cargo News reported.
In late August the African airline launched its first scheduled freighter service to Miami International Airport.
