'Engine as Weapon' symposium seeks papers ahead of July 16-17 meeting
A SYMPOSIUM organised by Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) will discuss the role of IFEP and platform system integration as a military effect will take place at the University of Bristol from July 16-17.
Organisers are making a request for papers with deadline for synopsises set for December 21. The introduction of electric power distribution within the marine sector has seen the combination of mechanical power to drive ship's propulsion by an Integrated Full Electric Propulsion (IFEP) has seen a large reduction in costs, less maintenance and noise.
Through IFEP military effect can be harnessed, said conference chairman Cdr Matt Bolton of the Royal Navy, but it requires precision and control of a highly networked environment.
"Technology development and platform design cannot prevail in isolation, and highly integrated systems are inevitable if affordable and adaptable solutions are to be exploited. The symposium themes will focus on four subsidiary areas: military effect; future combat systems; future platform systems and complex system integration.
Its previous EEAW Symposium has drawn a global audience from navies and naval procurement officials at all levels up to vice admiral, and from the commercial sector SMEs and prime contractors. It provides an opportunity for information exchange and much needed analysis and debate.
Further information on topics is available at www.imarest.org/eaaw - with online submission available; and from events@imarest.org. Synopses can also be emailed to events@imarest.org or mailed to Events Department, IMarEST, Aldgate House, 33 Aldgate High Street, London EC3N 1EN, UK.
