Egyptian troops block death sentence protesters from closing Suez Canal
THOUSANDS of Egyptians attempted to block the entrance to Suez Canal at Port Said on the second day of a two-day general strike.
But the protest over the death sentences of Port Said football rioters, charged in the deaths of 74 people a year ago, failed to disrupt the canal's operations when faced with a military guard protecting the waterway.
The demonstrators wanting to disrupt the work week beginning at 7am were not only protesting the death sentences, but also demanding legal action over the killing of protestors by police in clashes last month.
